Technician (carrying the job title of Safety Specialist)
Are you ready to apply your scientific or technical training in a role that directly supports research safety and regulatory excellence The University Safety Office is seeking a committed and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Safety Specialist at the Technician grade. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and integrity of laboratory operations across the University, with a strong emphasis on developing expertise in radiation protection.
The appointee will be responsible for (a) taking an active role in radiation safety, including: (1) radioactive contamination survey and calibration of radiation survey meters (2) managing radioactive substances and irradiating apparatus (3) co-ordinating health surveillance programmes for radiation workers and (4) ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards (b) assisting in promoting and maintaining safe practices in laboratories and research facilities and (c) supporting the implementation of safety protocols across diverse scientific disciplines.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree, Higher Diploma, or Higher Certificate in Physical Science, Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised university or technical institute OR a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognised university or technical institute, plus at least 3 years relevant post-qualification work experience (ii) a strong sense of responsibility (iii) good interpersonal skills and (iv) self-motivation and the willingness to learn.Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It is the territory's second-oldest university and was founded as a federation of three existing colleges – Chung Chi College, New Asia College and United College – the oldest of which was founded in 1949.
CUHK is organized into nine constituent colleges and eight academic faculties, and remains the only collegiate university in the territory. The university operates in both English and Chinese, although classes in most colleges are taught in English.
