Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or Software Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience with the hardware development lifecycle and shipping consumer devices.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in hardware program management.
  • 3 years of experience managing JDM/ODM programs.
  • Experience in leading complex mechanical hardware programs (EVT-PVT) with a proactive, ownership-driven approach to solve technical and schedule challenges.
  • Track record of successfully managing JDM/ODM partnerships and driving development with external vendors.
  • Expertise in mechanical engineering to drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) decisions with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to synthesize complex technical risks into clear narratives for audiences from engineers, marketing to executive stakeholders.

About The Job

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

As a Technical Program Manager for 1P Goods, you will lead complex hardware development programs from concept to mass production within a JDM model. You will leverage your technical background to drive alignment across a wide range of functions, including engineering, product management, industrial design, operations, quality, and others while managing external partner relationships. You will oversee build schedules and communicate program status to executives and key stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of innovative hardware solutions.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end complex hardware product development within a JDM model, ensuring on-time delivery within budget, feature, and quality goals.
  • Manage complex technical program schedules and builds across a range of functions, including hardware engineering, software engineering, product management, operations, industrial design, quality, etc.
  • Identify and mitigate dependencies and risks across cross-functional teams, resolving conflicts to meet critical milestones and ensure product viability.
  • Synthesize complex data into clear narratives and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from engineering teams to executives.
  • Leverage broad technical expertise in consumer product development to manage vendor relations and alignment between internal teams and external partners.
