The Semiconductor Laser Engineer/Specialist will be responsible for driving the selection, performance management, and reliability assurance of semiconductor lasers used in Molex's products. This role involves close collaboration with product design teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to ensure laser components meet stringent quality and reliability standards.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical expertise on GaAs and InP laser diode designs to guide R&D team for suitable product architectures
  • Define and implement performance and reliability specifications of semiconductor lasers aligned with product requirements (GaAs and InP-based)
  • Provide perspective on laser supplier selection, including technology maturity assessments, reliability assessment/modeling
  • Support failure analysis investigations and resolution strategies for laser failures, working closely with internal teams, suppliers, and customers
  • Provide ongoing technical support to process engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians on laser-related issues
  • Support supplier development initiatives, e.g., audits, quality improvement plans, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and escalate issues proactively to maintain supply chain robustness

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


  • PhD in Photonics, Optical or related laser technology
  • > 10 years of industry experience with semiconductor lasers
  • Experience in design, epi, fabrication, testing, and productization of semiconductor lasers (e.g., various 1.3um Tx devices and 980nm high-power pump lasers)
  • Knowledge of laser qualification tests (i.e., GR-468), multicell reliability testing, methodology and analytic tools
  • Knowledge of failure mode signatures associated with these devices, and track record of FMA and resolution
  • Experienced in creating specifications of semiconductor lasers
  • Experience of communication with vendors and customers
