  • 3 years of experience with embedded Linux and networking (TCP/IP).

  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience collaborating within a global matrixed structure, managing cross-functional partnerships across various time zones.
  • Experience working with clients and keeping a user-centric view of problem-solving.
  • Experience in shipping mass volume consumer products and performance optimizations.

About The Job

Home Device Software team is the team responsible for developing and shipping device software that powers Google's first-party smart home devices. We pride ourselves in having shipped hundreds of millions of devices including Chromecast, Smart Speakers, Nest Thermostats, Nest Cameras, Google WiFi and Smart display products, everything under the category of smart home on Google Store.

By showcasing cutting-edge Google software engineering and AI capabilities, we strive to launch innovative devices and bring incredibly useful and delightful experiences for our users.

In this role, you will oversee and guide a team of engineers dedicated to the creation and maintenance of the connectivity software stacks that underpin home products across several product verticals. Your core objective is to ensure that the Google/Nest WiFi stack remains optimized, reliable and performant for over 10 million active devices.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional Home Software teams to establish technical roadmaps and architectural standards.
  • Deliver system scalability, security compliance, and regular feature updates.
  • Utilize a technology stack that features C++, C, Rust, G3, and Compute infrastructure alongside Google's internal infrastructure.
  • Drive efficiency by employing AI to automate routine optimizations and predictive maintenance tasks.
