System Analyst (Strong SQL)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced System Analyst with strong SQL expertise to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with business stakeholders, development teams, and data engineers to analyse business requirements, design functional and technical solutions, and ensure data integrity across enterprise systems. You will play a critical role in bridging business needs with technical delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Gather, analyse, and document business and functional requirements from stakeholders across multiple departments.
• Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications, use cases, data flow diagrams, and process models.
• Write, review, and optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and scripts for data extraction, transformation, and validation.
• Perform data analysis and reconciliation to identify discrepancies, root causes, and data quality issues across source and target systems.
• Collaborate with developers, DBAs, and QA teams throughout the full SDLC to ensure solutions meet business intent and technical standards.
• Conduct SIT and UAT support — define test cases, verify data outputs, and manage issue resolution.
• Produce high-quality documentation including BRDs, FRDs, system design documents, and data dictionaries.
• Support production incidents involving data issues — investigate, diagnose, and coordinate resolution with technical teams.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to system modernisation initiatives.
• Liaise with third-party vendors and system integrators where applicable.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a System Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role in an IT or financial services environment.
• Strong and demonstrable SQL skills — able to write complex queries, stored procedures, and perform data analysis independently across SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
• Solid understanding of relational database design, data modelling, and ETL concepts.
• Experience with full SDLC methodologies — Agile/Scrum and Waterfall.
• Proficient in producing functional specifications, process flow diagrams, and UML/ER diagrams.
