We are seeking an industry veteran to serve as the
Senior Director, Critical Environments, holding ultimate accountability for the strategy, resilience, and operational excellence of our client's mission-critical portfolio. In this executive-level role, you will lead a large-scale, diverse organization comprised of over 100+ professionals, overseeing five distinct functional verticals: Critical Environment Operations, Lab Planning, Engineering, Operations Command Centers (FORT or NOC), and Operations & Innovation/Technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy
- Leader of Leaders: Manage and mentor a high-performing organization of 100+ staff members through direct supervision of five specialized Directors. You are responsible for fostering a No Ego culture of accountability and collaboration across diverse teams.
- Client Partnership: Serve as the primary strategic partner to senior client stakeholders. You must possess the ability to present complex technical and data concepts as clear business strategies to the C-Suite.
- Talent Ecosystem: Define the competency requirements and training standards for the entire critical environments organization , ensuring a deep pipeline of technical talent and Specialized Response capabilities.
- Operational Resilience & 24/7 Command
- Integrated Operations: Oversee the Director of Critical Operations and Senior Director of Engineering & Ops Center to ensure 100% uptime in critical operations.
- Crisis Management: Serve as the ultimate escalation point for major incidents. While your team manages the immediate response, you lead executive communication, mitigation strategy, and systemic Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Command Center Oversight: Direct the strategy of the 24/7 Operations Center, ensuring it effectively monitors critical systems to minimize downtime and acts as the Traffic Controller for workflow logistics.
- Technical Governance & Engineering Excellence
- Engineering Authority: Through the Labs Engineering Director, oversee comprehensive design reviews for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) topology, ensuring adherence to client standards.
- Lifecycle & Capital Planning: Partner with leadership to forecast end-of-life infrastructure replacements and lead the Capital Renewal Program to minimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
- Standardization: Drive enterprise-wide standards for SOPs and MOPs to ensure consistency across all facilities, moving beyond site-specific logs.
- Innovation, Data & Future-Readiness
- Technology Roadmap: Oversee the Director of Operations and Innovation to define the vision for next-level tools and data-driven platforms.
- Cloud & AI Strategy: Champion the use of cloud architecture (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) and AI opportunities to operationalize data from BMS and IoT sources for predictive maintenance.
- Transformation: Lead transformation engineering initiatives, ensuring the organization breaks free of fixed thinking to adopt emerging technologies.
- Strategic Planning & Space Management
- Portfolio Planning: Oversee the Labs Planning Director to manage strategic moves, adds, and changes (MAC) and data integrity efforts.
- Capacity Management: Maintain high-level reporting on all capacity thresholds (Power, Cooling, Space) to support the client's growth and R&D roadmap.
- Resource Optimization: Ensure the alignment of space planning with engineering realities to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Professional: 20+ years of progressive experience in Critical Environments (Data Centers, Semiconductor, Pharma, or R&D Labs), covering operations, engineering, planning, and innovation.
- Leadership: 15+ years of direct people management experience, specifically leading large technical teams (50-100+ staff) and managing managers in a multi-site, matrixed environment.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Facilities Management, or a related technical field is required. A Master's degree or MBA is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or PMP is preferred.
