Job Description

Established in 1987 and headquartered in Taiwan, TSMC pioneered the pure-play foundry business model with an exclusive focus on manufacturing its customers products. As of 2024, TSMC serves more than 500 customers and manufactures over 11,000 products for high-performance computing, smartphones, the Internet of Things (IoT), automotive, and digital consumer electronics. It is the world's largest provider of logic ICs, with an annual capacity of 16 million 12-inch equivalent wafers. TSMC operates fabs in Taiwan as well as manufacturing subsidiaries in Washington State, Japan and China, and the Company began construction on a specialty technology fab in Dresden, Germany, in 2024. In Arizona, TSMC is building three fabs, with the first starting 4nm production in 2025, the second by 2028, and the third by the end of the decade.

Corporate Research is responsible for the most forward-looking research, delving into the new materials and processes, advanced memory, chip design, and AI system structures required for the next generation of non-silicon components.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Perform hands-on lab exploration of materials and processes to achieve team goals.

2. Collaborate with the team to investigate logic device performance using new-material channels.

3. Work with universities, researcher centers, and suppliers to identify new processes and new materials.

Job Qualifications:

1. Professional Expertise:

(1) Develop expertise in ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) and ALE (Atomic Layer Etching) research and process development.

(2) Combine background knowledge of 2D materials with relevant experience in ALD, which is highly desirable.

(3) Demonstrate strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills, grounded in fundamental principles.

2. Personal Traits:

(1) Engage in hands-on lab experience and actively participate with a strong sense of ownership.

(2) Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams, including internal colleagues and external partners.

3. Hold a PhD degree in an engineering or scientific field such as Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

4. Communicate fluently in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills required.

5. Relocate willingly to TSMC headquarters in Taiwan.
