The Process Engineer II is the main point of contact for all production process equipment and associated program and fixture-related designs, actions, and plans to support the development and application of thermal spray coatings on semiconductor equipment components. Develops robotic programs and supports fixture design for thermal spray coating applications, including plasma and twin wire arc spray coatings. Leads efforts in constantly improving equipment yields, throughput, and performance. Accountable for the equipment procedures and equipment process indicators. Continually develops the skills necessary for sustaining 'world-class' parts coating engineering services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains robotic programs and machine parameters for new coatings, as well as the application of existing coatings to additional part geometries
  • Establishes and monitors coating quality metrics coverage, adhesion, porosity, etc.
  • Establishes area workflow to maximize safety, quality, and capacity of the coating operation cooperates with Operations for implementation
  • Establishes equipment preventive maintenance schedules and monitors periodically for possible improvements
  • Fixture design expertise, interfaces with fixture designers to establish best practices in design and ensure successful implementation of new designs, including iterative design review and approval prior to fixture manufacture
  • Develops/maintains and evaluates production tooling (fixtures, tools, miscellaneous equipment, etc.) required for efficient, effective part processing
  • Develops and implements training materials, examinations, and certifications regarding process equipment maintenance and coating processes
  • Develops and maintains process work procedures (preventive maintenance, operations standard operating procedures, programming procedures, corrective maintenance, RFC, OQ, IQ)

Other Duties

Participates in projects as assigned to improve systems, operations & cross-functional collaboration. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Company.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Hands-on experience programming automated plasma spray operations, including a full understanding of the related metrology techniques for coating analysis and monitoring.

Superior leadership and interpersonal communication skills; high-level troubleshooting skills coupled with a hands-on approach to solving problems. Familiarity with 'Six Sigma', 'Lean Manufacturing' concepts, and other process improvement methods and approaches.

Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the organization. Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

English language writing and verbal communication.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

A minimum B.Sc. degree in a sub-field of engineering, mechanical preferred, materials from an accredited college or university. Experience in the semiconductor industry is an advantage.

Work Experience Requirements:

At least 2 years of experience working as a Thermal Spray Coatings Engineer, with experience with suspension plasma spray equipment is preferred.

Work Environment:

This job is performed both in a professional office environment and on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, climb stairs, and maintain balance; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust optical focus.

Travel Requirements:

Limited off-site and/or overnight travel away from the primary work location may be required.
