About the Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the execution of Blue Cross's reinsurance strategy. As the core member of the reinsurance function, the Associate Director will be responsible for implementing strategic initiatives as directed by the Reinsurance Committee The role also involves making strategic recommendations, managing treaty placements, and ensuring governance and compliance, while reporting directly to the CFO.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Reinsurance Strategy

  • Make strategic recommendations to the Reinsurance Committee.
  • Execute the reinsurance strategy as directed by the Reinsurance Committee.

Reinsurance Governance

  • Lead the governance framework for reinsurance, including management of the Reinsurance Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Treaty Negotiation & Management

  • Lead negotiations for reinsurance treaties, including structuring, pricing, and terms.
  • Manage the end-to-end treaty lifecycle from placement to renewal.

Facultative Reinsurance (Fac-in/Fac-out)

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to handle facultative reinsurance opportunities.

Business Development & Market Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reinsurers, brokers, and other insurers to identify and pursue inward and outward reinsurance opportunities.
  • Proactively source and structure reinsurance solutions that support business growth and capital efficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (actuarial, underwriting, finance, legal, compliance, risk) and external partners (brokers, reinsurers) to ensure effective communication and execution of reinsurance arrangements.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Provide regular reporting and insights to the CFO and senior management on reinsurance performance, market trends, and strategic opportunities.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks and report to Reinsurance Committee.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure all reinsurance contracts and documentation are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., ACII, FCII, CPCU) preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in reinsurance, broking, or underwriting, with a strong understanding of treaty structures, negotiations, and governance.
  • Proven track record in business development, including sourcing and structuring reinsurance solutions.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of insurance product lines and underwriting principles.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with reinsurers, brokers, and other insurers.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
