Position Overview
The OHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs across operations, construction activities, and regional offices.
This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and industry best practices. The OHS Manager collaborates closely with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies to maintain a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible data center environment.
Key Responsibilities
- EHS Strategy & Program Development: Responsible for building and managing a comprehensive EHS management system for data center operations and construction. This includes developing policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, promoting a strong safety culture through leadership and training, evaluating EHS risks across all project phases, and setting risk-reduction goals supported by metrics and dashboards to monitor progress.
- Compliance & Regulatory Management: Responsible for ensuring full compliance with local, national, and international EHS regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ISO 14001/45001). Duties include maintaining permits and certifications, conducting audits and inspections, addressing compliance gaps, liaising with regulatory agencies, managing documentation, reviewing safe work practices, and collaborating with the legal team for guidance.
- Environment, Health & Safety Management: Responsible for developing and enforcing safety policies for data center operations and construction, including high-risk activities such as electrical work, confined spaces, LOTO, fall protection, and heavy equipment use. Oversees contractor and supplier safety programs, leads incident investigations and root cause analyses, and develops emergency response plans to ensure business continuity. Collaborates with internal teams to ensure smooth transitions from data center delivery to operations while mitigating risks.
- Environmental Compliance & Sustainability: Responsible for monitoring environmental compliance (air, water, hazardous waste, and spill prevention) and driving sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, and waste management improvements. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to achieve corporate environmental and sustainability goals.
- Training & Employee Engagement: Responsible for providing daily health and safety guidance to stakeholders and designing EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and management. Conducts toolbox talks, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote a strong safety culture, and develops incentive programs to encourage participation in occupational health and safety initiatives.
- Data Analytics & Reporting: Responsible for monitoring and driving EHS performance through KPIs and annual improvement plans. Tracks incidents, audit findings, and compliance status, maintains records, and prepares reports for senior management. Uses EHS management software to document activities and analyzes leading and lagging safety metrics to inform leadership decisions and promote accountability.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Serves as the primary EHS liaison for data center leadership, construction teams, contractors, and external agencies. Collaborates with internal teams and external vendors, leads cross-functional safety committees, participates in corporate EHS initiatives, and provides technical guidance and mentorship to site OHS personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environment Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering or related discipline with equivalent years of experience
- Certified Safety Specialist (), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) preferred
- Over 10 years of EHS experience, preferably in mission-critical environments such as data centers, industrial facilities, large-scale construction, oil & gas, mining, or manufacturing.
- Proven expertise in developing and implementing EHS programs, safety policies, and procedures for both operational and construction settings.
- Strong knowledge of global EHS standards, ISO certifications (ISO 45001/14001/9001), sustainability initiatives, Environmental Impact Assessment requirements, and safety best practices.
- In-depth understanding of EHS regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and compliance management.
- Skilled in conducting investigations, audits, compliance assessments, and reporting findings effectively.
- Proficient in EHS management software and data analysis tools.
- Strong communicator and leader with excellent stakeholder management skills; capable of building partnerships with internal teams, external vendors, and site leadership to execute safety initiatives.
- Adept at problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, and managing EHS issues, with the ability to escalate concerns as needed.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive information with sound judgment.
- Willingness to travel domestically to all data centers and project sites; occasional international travel for inspections, audits, or training may be required.
