Description

The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for the District, currently assigned to Spence Elementary School, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Projected start date: As soon as possible.

Wisconsin certification 1809 is required (1808 is also acceptable). Multiple certifications are preferred. Successful completion of a mandatory Job Specific Screen is required before employment. CPI training conducted by the School District of La Crosse is also required.

Services are delivered to Early Childhood students in a collaborative, transdisciplinary teamed manner within the child's natural environment as well as a center based district wide programs. Services are delivered in a collaborative and transdisciplinary manner with the EC teachers serving as the coordinators of all the program and instructional activities. Maintenance and team teaching in the least restrictive environment through integration into Title I, kindergarten and community preschools is expected.

Prefer Applicants Possessing The Following Qualifications

  • Education in Early Childhood Special Education beyond Bachelor's degree.
  • Transdisciplinary family-based assessment and teamed programming.
  • Creating and supporting educational services for students who may have significant needs in the areas of behavior and/or language.
  • Use of assistive and adaptive technology to support student independence especially in communication and mobility across all their environments.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage the educational programs of students placed in the EC centers, including assessment, instructional, and behavioral management as per IEP.
  • Support integration activities within the regular education and community environments.
  • Provide outcome-based, functional life skills instructional programs as necessitated by identified adaptive skill delays and preschool options.
  • Medical procedures (tracheotomy suctioning, sterile catheterization, tube feeding, etc.), infant/child CPR, First Aid (will upgrade to current standards).
