The Roku TV Technology Engineering team is responsible for delivering next-generation TV feature innovation from early-stage technology research and system architecture design to full-scale productization and global mass production. We focus on core TV technologies like System Architecture, Picture Quality, Display, Audio and AI/ ML-powered enhancement, bringing tangible value to millions of users.

About the role

Roku isseeking a Director of Engineering to lead our TV Technology team in Hsinchu Taiwan. As a key technology leader, youll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create a forward-looking Technology Roadmap, identifying opportunities for AI/ML-driven innovation in Picture Quality and TV system intelligence. Youll lead Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives and drive successful transitions from prototype to mass production. You will define and execute Rokus AI and technology innovation strategy, focusing on feature development that blends technical excellence, user experience, and cost mangement. This is a unique opportunity for a senior technology professional who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment and enjoys shaping the future of TV innovation.

What you will be doing

• Lead a high-impact engineering team focused on system architecture, display technologies, and TV innovation.
• Drive AI/ML-based feature exploration, prototyping and implementation (e.g., content-aware display tuning, smart image enhancement) as part of a broader PQ innovation portfolio.
• Partner with global universities, ODMs, and vendors on next-generation TV technologies.
• Translate advanced technologies into production-ready features for the Roku TV platform.
• Collaborate closely with product leaders to prioritize innovations based on feasibility, user impact, and cost-performance optimizations

We&aposre excited if you have

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record of delivering innovation in the TV industry
• Passionate for full innovation lifecycle, including hands-on prototyping (software and hardware), and successfully driving concepts through the full development lifecycle to scalable, mass-production-ready solutions
• Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in both English and Mandarin.
• Familiarity with emerging trends in AI/ML for multimedia, display optimization, System Architecture, Picture Quality, Video Processing, and Display Technology.
• Excellent understanding of the cost structure of TV components and how emerging technologies can drive cost reductions while enhancing user experience.
• Deep industry and academic network in the relevant domains
• Track record of participating in industry conferences, and having a good understanding of display related technology trends
• AI literacy and curiosity. You have either 1) tried Gen AI in your previous work or outside of work or 2) are curious about Gen AI and have explored it.
