Computer Technician II

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has launched an AI education project since 2019, namely CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project, which aims to mainstream AI education through maintaining a sustainable AI education ecosystem among Hong Kong secondary schools. Led by the Faculties of Engineering and Education with funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Project has been collaborating with 63 secondary schools to reach beyond 12,000 students and is now extending to its second phase from 2022 to 2026. The Project engages secondary schools and teachers with provisions of a novel and comprehensive AI curriculum, all-inclusive AI courseware, hands-on learning on an e-platform and AI knowledge enrichment to teachers. To engage the public in AI education, the Project offers a wide diversity of public education events to enhance public understanding towards AI technologies.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) implementing features on Jupyter-based e-learning web applications, including development, testing, systems maintenance and support (b) supporting the development of maintenance of project website and e-newsletter system (c) providing assistance in system design and prepare system documentation (d) providing technical support to Project Schools and colleagues and (e) performing any ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Applicants should have/be (i) a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related disciplines (ii) at least 1 year's experience in web application development and Linux platform (iii) experience in web development with PHP / Python / Jupyter stack / GPU server (iv) experience in Learning Management System, such as Moodle (v) experience in database systems, such as MySQL (vi) self-motivation, good analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as a good team member and (vii) a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Fresh graduates are also welcome to apply.

Appointment will initially be made on contract with an end-date of July 31, 2026, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
