Introduction to the job
This role focuses on supporting mechatronics-related modules within PAS5500/RH/YS systems, including wafer and reticle stages and handlers. The position requires strong analytical skills to identify root causes through logical reasoning, as well as broad technical knowledge across motion control, automation control theory, error diagnostics, mechatronics, electronics, and system-level troubleshooting.
The scope covers all ASML factory activities related to assembling, testing, diagnosing, and improving qualified modules and submodules, including optical fabrication processes. The engineer works independently within established procedures, collaborates with the Group Lead on technical, process, and project-related topics, and maintains a network across functional areas for effective problem resolution.
Role and responsibilities
Solutioning / 2nd Line Support
- Contribute to resolving technical faults and take necessary decisions to ensure no repeat issues.
- Analyze and structurally solve technical and process problems across several modules.
- Perform signal tracing, power analysis, and low-level diagnostics (position, velocity, acceleration) to support issue escalation, engineering changes, and supplier communication.
New Product Introduction
- Apply technical knowledge in product or process development projects to foresee production issues early in the design phase.
- Improve product manufacturability and support release for volume takeover from D&E to Manufacturing.
Engineering
- Collect and evaluate technical data; contribute to or create partial designs.
- Understand engineering issues within assigned tasks and propose solution options in environments with technical uncertainties.
- Work independently on diagnostics and maintenance activities.
Maintenance
- Maintain, validate, and update procedures, work preparation documents, processes, and blueprints/sequences for factory execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze production processes, identify bottlenecks or structural issues, propose improvement plans, and drive implementation.
- Continuously optimize operating instructions, process flows, routings, process parameters, and indicators.
- Lead assigned improvement projects to on-time and successful delivery.
- Identify missing processes inside or outside the factory and create them as needed.
Module-Specific Scope
- Support PAS5500/RH/YS mechatronics modules, including wafer and reticle stages/handlers.
- Apply knowledge of automation control theory, motion control, and error tables for diagnostics.
- Handle PCB-related issues including communication protocols, signals, electrical components, and circuit-level troubleshooting.
- Study schematics and perform signal/power tracing for module and system-level problem solving.
Education and experience
- Master's degree in Science or Engineering (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics), or Bachelor's degree in a technical domain with equivalent experience.
- 35 years of design engineering experience preferred.
Skill
- Strong understanding of work preparation, tooling, hardware, and software.
- Strong logical reasoning and root cause analysis ability.
- Ability to read schematics, trace signals/power, and perform diagnostics.
- Knowledge of automation control theory, motion control, and mechatronics fundamentals.
- Ability to build and maintain cross-functional networks for effective problem resolution.
