Position Overview:
We are looking for a senior ESG professional to act as the primary bridge between coverage bankers, product partners and corporate clients on sustainability‑related opportunities. The role will drive ESG advisory, commercial development and internal capability‑building to scale the bank's sustainable‑finance pipeline across the region.
Responsibilities
1. ESG / Sustainability Client Engagement
- Create and maintain ESG playbooks, pitch‑books and best‑practice guides for corporate clients covering physical risks, natural capital, water stewardship, circular economy, etc.
- Activate coverage bankers and run quarterly workshops & forums to surface ESG opportunities in their portfolios.
- Lead comprehensive client engagement on ESG - raise awareness, deepen relationships with strategic accounts and originate innovative financing solutions (ESG‑labelled loans, low‑carbon products, sustainable trade).
- Mentor junior team members on ESG analysis and content creation, and ensure that outputs are shared with coverage teams.
2. Scale ESG Commercial Engagement
- Develop ESG commercial action plans with Corporate Coverage, targeting key corporates in line with Global Banking (GB) commercial and risk strategy.
- Collaborate with product partners (Low‑Carbon Transition Group, Sustainable Capital Markets, Transaction Banking) to jointly identify sustainable‑finance opportunities, replicate deals and produce up‑to‑date client‑facing material.
- Monitor ESG commercial intensity in Business‑as‑Usual (BAU) operations and report regularly to regional management, the Head of Business Lines and the Head of Territories.
- Strengthen the BAU ESG engagement process with a structured approach, a banker up‑skilling programme and refreshed content.
- Build partnerships across the sustainability ecosystem (clients, regulators, civil‑society organisations) to address regional sustainability challenges.
3. Global & Regional Sustainability Initiatives
- Support APAC alignment with global ESG policy exercises (climate‑portfolio alignment, CSR review, regulatory projects).
- Assist the steering and monitoring of Global Banking's sustainability strategy in APAC, delivering projects on ESG, CSR and Sustainable Finance Solutions.
- Provide internal capacity‑building - prepare sustainability presentations, training modules, case studies and run community‑building activities to raise staff awareness of Global Banking Sustainable Solutions.
- Analyse, monitor and report ESG trends and issues for key sectors (renewables, clean transport, ICT, commodities, FMCG), covering best practices, legal and regulatory developments and ecosystem updates.
- Produce presentations and contribute to reporting for the Group (GB ESG Committee/SteerCo, Sustainability Core Group, GBA Executive Committee, etc.)
Experience & Qualification requirements:
- Master's degree in Environment & Sustainability, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5-7 years of hands‑on experience in ESG advisory, sustainable‑finance origination or sustainability strategy (banking, insurance, ESG rating agency, consulting or corporate ESG).
- Proven track record working with coverage bankers and product partners on ESG‑linked financing.
- Strong analytical skills to assess ESG risk, impact and commercial opportunity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication - able to convey complex sustainability concepts to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with ESG‑linked structures such as green loans, sustainability‑linked bonds, ESG‑linked trade finance.
- Knowledge of energy transition, circular economy, natural capital, sustainable mobility or sustainable cities.
- Professional ESG certifications (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, Climate‑Related Financial Disclosure).
- Prior exposure to the Low‑Carbon Transition Group, Sustainable Capital Markets or Transaction Banking teams.
