Technician (carrying the job title of Book Design and Production Supervisor)As the publishing division of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Press publishes books and journals in both Chinese and English languages. We are looking for a passionate and experienced candidate to manage the design and production of all press publications and marketing materials. This role will work with in-house editorial and marketing teams, as well as a range of external contacts such as printers, freelance designers, and other University departments.The appointee will be responsible for (a) creating design solutions for book covers and interiors (b) working with other in-house staff to oversee the production of approximately 60 new publications and some backlist titles each year and (c) delivering design plans for the press website and promotional materials such as posters, backdrops, flyers, and souvenirs.Applicants should have/be (i) a Higher Diploma/ Certificate in Design, preferably with a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or technical institute (ii) at least 3 years post-qualification work experience (iii) a good command of English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) (iv) the ability to oversee the workflow of multiple book projects (v) proficiency in InDesign and other design software applications (vi) time-consciousness, patience, and attentiveness to details and (vii) the ability to work collaboratively.Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.The University only accepts and considers applications submitted online for the post above via the CUHK career site.
