Formative is partnering with a leading Japanese energy company — with a growing portfolio of thermal, LNG, and decarbonisation investments across Asia Pacific — to hire a Strategy Manager based in Singapore.
The role leads market intelligence and analytical workstreams, translating insights into actionable implications for strategy, investment decisions, and portfolio performance across APAC. The individual will work closely with internal stakeholders to identify growth opportunities and track developments in energy markets and decarbonisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own market intelligence across key APAC markets (Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, and others), synthesizing macro, policy, regulatory, and sector developments into actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of energy market developments, covering supply/demand fundamentals, policy dynamics, and competitor activity; translate findings into strategic and commercial implications.
- Lead market and commercial input for evaluating existing assets and new investment opportunities, including strategy alignment, risk assessment, and competitive positioning.
- Support and enhance in-house analytical tools (e.g. Power BI), structuring datasets and defining key metrics for decision-making.
- Prepare and present materials for senior leadership, conferences, and external engagements.
- Build and maintain a personal network with industry players, advisors, and partners across the region.
- Contribute to cross-functional and cross-regional strategic initiatives as directed.
- Occasional regional travel required.
Main requirements
- 4-8+ years of experience in the power and/or gas industry, with a focus on business strategy or market analysis; strong knowledge of Asian energy markets preferred.
- Solid understanding of the gas/LNG and fuel-to-power value chain.
- Strong analytical skills — both quantitative and qualitative — with the ability to deliver decision-oriented insights.
- Excellent communication skills; able to present complex findings clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, data analytics, or a related field.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel); experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or power market modelling is a plus.
