Overview

Synaptics is looking for a Staff Hardware Applications Engineer to join our dynamic and growing organization. The primary focus will be on reference board design, key customers hardware support, cooperate with internal verification/ASIC teams on the issue-shooting. You will serve as the primary technical bridge between internal silicon development teams and external customers. This senior role requires a blend of deep post-silicon validation expertise and the high-level communication skills needed to enable customer success. This position reports to the Manager, Hardware Application Engineering.

Responsibilities & Competencies

Job Duties

  • Lead technical consultant for key customers, conducting schematic and PCB layout reviews for signal and power integrity
  • Lead the end-to-end design of evaluation boards (EVBs) and reference platforms, including hardware specification, component selection, and board-level debug
  • Partner with silicon validation teams during early-stage power-on and boot. Use oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and logic analyzers to root-cause complex board-level issues
  • Create high-quality application notes, design guidelines, and troubleshooting checklists to scale technical support for broad market adoption
  • Translate field-captured customer requirements and issues into actionable feedback for R&D and design teams to influence next-generation silicon

Qualifications (Requirements)

  • Bachelor's (Master's preferred) degree in electrical engineering (EE), Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent
  • 8+ years of professional experience in semiconductor hardware application or post-silicon validation
  • Proficiency in high-speed digital design (e.g., Serdes, PCIe, DDR, Ethernet).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as real-time oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
  • Scripting proficiency in Python or MATLAB for automating bench measurements
  • Strong knowledge of Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx, ADS)
  • Minimal travel up to 10% travel may be required
