Job Description

COMPANY INFORMATION

Stathera is a fabless semiconductor company focused on providing cutting-edge MEMS-based timing solutions. With offices in Montreal and Toronto and Boston, our team is re-architecting the traditional quartz-based timing industry with the introduction of state-of-the-art DualMode™ frequency technology. This breakthrough innovation is redefining what is possible in timing applications and synchronization and has the potential to transform the entire $9.4 Billion electronics timing industry.

INTRODUCTION TO ROLE

Stathera is looking for a Sr. Staff Failure Analysis Engineer to join our team. This role will lead and manage failure analysis and root cause investigations, partnering extensively with external FA labs (such as MA-Tek or IST) in Asia. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Stathera's MEMS devices meet the highest standards of quality performance and reliability throughout the product lifecycle.

The Sr. Staff Failure Analysis Engineer will report directly to the Director of Operations - Asia and will be expected to work a total of 40 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • External FA Lab Management: Lead and direct failure analysis activities at external service providers in Asia (e.g., MA-Tek, IST), ensuring prompt turnaround times, rigorous analytical methodologies, and high-quality reporting.
  • Root Cause Investigation: Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (e.g., 8D, OCAP) for internal, supplier-related, and customer return quality issues.
  • Cross-functional Interface: Act as a key technical interface between design, process, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure alignment on failure mechanisms and required analytical strategies.
  • Methodology & Strategy: Provide technical guidance on failure analysis methodologies to internal teams and external lab partners.
  • Data Analysis & Documentation: Maintain traceable documentation of failure analysis milestones, issue resolution, and lessons learned across the product lifecycle.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion the use of quality tools and methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams) to uncover true root causes and enhance product robustness.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience: BS or MS in Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience in the semiconductor or MEMS industry, specifically working in the failure analysis roles.
  • Technical Depth: Deep technical knowledge of MEMS and semiconductor fabrication, packaging, and test processes.
  • FA Expertise: Extensive proficiency in physical and electrical failure analysis techniques (EFA, SAT, EMMI, OBIRCH, FIB, EDX/XPS, 3D-Xray,..) and sample preparation methods.
  • Lab Management: Demonstrated ability to manage external laboratory vendors, dictate analytical flows, and hold partners accountable for data quality and delivery times.
  • Quality Tools: Proficiency in quality engineering tools such as 8D, root cause analysis methodologies, and structured problem solving.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills across global teams and external suppliers. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives and influence without direct authority.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience with timing devices, MEMS, and 2-dies components (MEMS + ASIC).
  • Proficiency in reliability testing methodologies (e.g., HTOL, HAST, THB, TCT, ESD, LU) and understanding how they correlate to physical defect mechanisms.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP) for interpreting complex reliability and failure data.
  • Experience with multiple package types (ceramic, plastic, WLCSP).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Mandarin or other Asian language proficiency is a plus
