- Software Engineer - Java / Kotlin

- Contract: 12 months, with potential to extend
Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Software Engineer to join the Software Engineering team, responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting robust, scalable Java/Kotlin applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain applications using Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, EJB, MySQL, Oracle and IBM MQ.
- Analyse business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, fit-for-purpose technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex legacy defects and production issues.
- Ensure adherence to coding, security and performance standards.
- Participate in application design, development, testing and implementation.
- Work closely with business and technical stakeholders and communicate complex technical issues effectively.
- Support Agile delivery using Scrum/XP methodologies.
- Apply TDD and software engineering best practices to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Core Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design.
- Experience with JUnit, TDD, REST/SOAP, JMS/IBM MQ and SQL.
- Good understanding of relational databases and SQL query optimisation.
- Basic experience with Linux, AWS, CI/CD and containerisation.
- Experience with Git, IntelliJ and SonarQube/SonarLint.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Banking or financial services experience is preferred.
Good to have: JBoss, JPA, EJB, Kafka and ReactJS.
