The characterization will focus on two types of pollutants, namely, formaldehyde and TVOC. Test rigs will be designed and fabricated for investigating (1) adsorption and saturation, and (2) plasma generation to treat spent activated carbon. Conceptual designs for regeneration based on different approaches will be studied.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD in Physics, Engineering or equivalent (ii) at least ten years experience in experimental research related to plasma generation and control (iii) proficiency in Windows applications and MS Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint) (iv) good written and conversational skills in both English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Mandarin) and (v) a creative, self-motivated, well organised mindset and the ability to work independently. Experience in plasma treatment of material surfaces is preferred.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) conducting experimental research and development of plasma generation and activated carbon regeneration (b) assisting in design and fabrication of test jigs (c) designing and carrying out performance measurements to characterise activated carbon adsorption and saturation process (d) optimising plasma generation for spent activated carbon regeneration (e) supporting the development of conceptual designs for in place regeneration based on direct and integrated methods and (f) managing project team to conduct experiments, perform measurements, collect and analyse data.

About Company

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. CUHK is organized into nine constituent colleges and eight academic faculties, and remains the only collegiate university in the territory. The university operates in both English and Chinese, although classes in most colleges are taught in English. Four Nobel laureates are associated with the university, and it is the only tertiary institution in Hong Kong with recipients of the Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal and Veblen Prize sitting as faculty in residence.
