Senior/Principal Analyst – Semiconductor Foundry Research

Counterpoint Research is a fast-growing global analyst firm. We are seeking a Senior Analyst / Principal Analyst specializing in the global semiconductor foundry industry, with a strong focus on foundry technologies, market white space identification, and application-driven demand modeling.

This role requires a deep understanding of foundry process nodes development, utilization, ecosystem dynamics, and end-market applications, combined with the ability to build bottom-up models and generate actionable insights for clients. The ideal candidate will bridge data, industry relationships, and strategic analysis to help clients navigate structural shifts in the foundry landscape.

Job Description:

As a key analyst within our Semiconductor practice, you will have coverage of the global foundry landscape, develop deep insights on advanced and mature-node technologies and their end applications, and build bottom-up models for wafer demand, capacity, utilization and pricing. You will engage directly with foundries, fabless companies, and equipment/materials vendors, and translate that primary research into client-ready deliverables and thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foundry Market Analysis — analyze the global foundry landscape, including TSMC, Samsung, Intel, GlobalFoundries, UMC, Indian and Chinese foundries; identify market gaps across process nodes, geographies, and applications; track supply–demand imbalances, utilization trends, and structural shifts in capacity.
  • Process Node & Application-Level Research — develop deep insights into process nodes; map process nodes to key applications, for advanced compute (SoCs, xPUs, etc) to including compute to connectivity to sensors (MCU, PMIC, Power Semi, display drivers (DDI), Wi-Fi, RF, Image Sensors, etc); analyze technology competitiveness vs. cost structure across nodes.
  • Bottom-Up Modeling & Forecasting — build bottom-up models for wafer demand by node/application/customer, foundry capacity and utilization, and ASP and revenue forecasting; maintain structured datasets and assumptions for long-term forecasts; translate models into client-ready insights and narratives.
  • Industry Engagement & Primary Research — maintain close relationships with foundries, fabless companies, and equipment and materials vendors; conduct primary interviews and channel checks to validate assumptions; represent Counterpoint Research at industry events such as the TSMC Technology Symposium, Semicon, etc.
  • Client Deliverables & Thought Leadership — produce high-quality market reports, custom client projects, and quarterly updates and presentations; provide clear, concise, and actionable insights to clients; support business development through client engagement and proposal input.

Qualifications — Experience:

Min 5+ years of experience in semiconductor research, foundry, or related industries. Prior experience covering foundry/process nodes/wafer supply chain in a technical marketing, strategy, market intelligence, etc roles strongly preferred.

B.S. or B.A. required; advanced degrees welcome. Masters or PhD a bonus.

You already have interest and working knowledge of the semiconductor industry — ideally with familiarity in foundry processes, AI accelerators, or server/data-center hardware — and can express your views clearly and concisely.

In addition, you can demonstrate the following:

  • Self-motivation and a keen interest in analyzing the technology and semiconductor sectors. You are ready to interpret trends and can articulate your understanding in an engaging way.
  • The ability to analyze and synthesize the available data and bring out value-added insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in written form, in English.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work confidently as an individual contributor, as well as being comfortable as a team player.
