Job Description

Main Purpose:

The MSL shall act as a scientific expert between Bayer and the medical community through the dissemination and education of scientific data and material.

The MSL establishes long-term scientific/strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/scientists and with related major medical associations and academic centers of excellence. These relationships will ensure that opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information and that pertinent information is shared with the medical community.

The MSL uses his/her experience and knowledge interacting with key external medical and pharmacy professionals through the process of education via one-to-one interaction; small group discussion and symposia lecture presentations including interactions associated with sponsored medical education programs and research protocols. The MSL will facilitate Opinion Leader involvement in national, regional and local educational forums including advisory boards, symposia and CME venues.

The MSL also serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders within Bayer by communicating relevant information from Key Thought Leaders to key cross-functional partners at Product Team meetings.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Exchange and dissemination of scientific, educational, and research related information:

-The MSL plans, prepares and engages with TLs (Thought Leaders) as an information scientist both proactively and reactively -The MSL offers dissemination, clarification and education of scientific data, study protocols, meeting abstracts, and professional literature (both proactive on-label discussions, and reactive discussions on unsolicited off-label questions in alignment with local regulations).

-Applies an understanding of the broader and longer-term strategies when working with investigators and internal stakeholders.

2. Interactions with Medical Societies and organization of Advisory Board meetings:

-Answers medical / scientific queries from Medical Societies with regards to Bayer products

-Organizes / supports / participates/follows up with the advisory board meetings.

-Attends congresses and conventions, interacts with Key TLs, establishes new contacts and gathers competitive intelligence.

3. Collection of unsolicited IIR (Investigator Initiated Research) ideas and facilitating IIR set-up:

The MSL acts as a point of contact for investigators, facilitating as the interface between investigators and appropriate Bayer personnel responsible for approval, system documentation, and the update of study progress and completion.

4. TL identification / profiling / segmentation and strategy and engagement planning:

In alignment with product Medical Affairs plan, the MSL contributes to internal understanding of specific TL interests and expertise within the medical community.

5. Market Access:

The MSL provides assistance to Medical Advisors/Medical Leads and Market Access by supporting presentations of new information to hospital formularies and reimbursement decisions makers as required.

6. Internal scientific support:

The MSL has a strong scientific and clinical knowledge and is viewed as a resource in the therapeutic area / product team. The MSL aligns with cross-functional colleagues at Product Team meetings and contributes to internal (cross) functional projects.

7. Project leadership:

The MSL demonstrates a high degree of autonomy with the ability to organize and execute, and be held accountable for multiple medical projects assigned by His/Her supervisor. The MSL participates in strategic planning within therapeutic area and the department.

Skills & Qualifications:

- At least Master's degree in bio-sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology or medicine. Advanced degree in science-related field eg. MD, PharmD, PhD are preferred.

- At least 1 year of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred. Relevant experience in MSL, drug information, clinical research and development, or other clinically relevant activities would be a plus.

- Have preliminary understanding of clinical trial design and rationale -A team player with open-minded interpersonal skills.

- Capability to work independently and a demonstrated self-initiator -Good presentation and written and verbal communication skills.

- Good organization/alignment skills to ensure timely follow-through and closure with internal stakeholders and external experts -Demonstrate good learning agility.

- Capability to explore scientific information and extract insights from relevant scientific data to support brand strategy.

- Academic / scientific writing experience either through educational background and / or job experience.
