Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the technical design, development, and execution of complex electrical engineering systems. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs, ensuring compliance with local regulatory codes and safety standards, and guiding projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning. You will also mentor junior engineers, coordinate cross-discipline workflows, and interface directly with clients, contractors, and local authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering: Lead the conceptual and detailed design of low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, including power distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, standby generators, lighting, and grounding/earthing systems.
- Calculations & Documentation: Prepare and review technical calculations (e.g., cable sizing, short-circuit calculations, voltage drop, load flow, and protection coordination studies). Produce single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Compliance & Approvals: Ensure all design deliverables strictly adhere to national, local, and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC, BS EN). Prepare and submit documentation to statutory and regulatory authorities for approval.
- Cross-Discipline Coordination: Work closely with mechanical, structural, architectural, and controls teams to eliminate design clashes and produce fully integrated, buildable project documentation using CAD and BIM software.
- Site Support & Quality Control: Perform site inspections, respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), review contractor submittals, and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site commissioning activities.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Review and approve the technical outputs of junior and mid-level design engineers, providing technical direction, guidance, and quality assurance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-8+ years of progressive design engineering experience in power distribution, MEP systems, or industrial electrical design.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on expertise in design and drafting software, including AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP (BIM), and electrical simulation/analysis packages (e.g., ETAP, Amtech, SKM, or Dialux).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of power system design, protection schemes, panel layouts, equipment selection, and safety protocols.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record of managing technical discussions with clients, sub-contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
- Cooperative
- Further Training: WAH supervisor, BCSS.
