Senior Associate-Scientific Writing – Medical Affairs & Gen AI
Job Description
- Review, develop, and write content for various medical materials, including but not limited to brochures, slide decks, newsletters, infographics, scientific documents, and other medical communication materials, in line with client requirements, with 100% quality and within agreed timelines.
- Should be able to independently take decisions on the presentation of information, structure and flow of content, inclusion of relevant scientific data, and enhancement of the visual appeal and effectiveness of documents. Should be familiar with AMA style of writing, with strong knowledge of language, grammar, stylization, referencing, and scientific communication principles.
- Strong Medical Affairs experience is mandatory. Should have hands-on experience supporting Medical Affairs activities and developing scientific/medical content for pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare clients. Experience in areas such as Medical Information, Medical Communications, Scientific Communications, Medical Education, Advisory Boards, KOL engagement, or other Medical Affairs activities will be highly relevant.
- Should be well versed with scientific databases such as PubMed, Embase, etc., and have a strong understanding of literature search methodology, publication retrieval, critical appraisal of scientific literature, and identification of relevant publications/data.
- Familiarity with medical information management, including drafting standard response documents, medical information letters, FAQs, and responses to unsolicited medical/scientific queries, is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI (Gen AI) in medical/scientific writing is preferable. This includes practical experience using Gen AI tools to support activities such as scientific literature research, content development, summarization, drafting, content refinement, data interpretation, document review, and/or quality checks, while ensuring scientific accuracy, appropriate referencing, confidentiality, and compliance requirements.
- Should demonstrate a strong understanding of the appropriate and responsible use of Gen AI in a regulated pharmaceutical/healthcare environment, including the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated content, identify inaccuracies or hallucinations, verify information against credible scientific sources, and apply human oversight.
- Responsible for following best practices in the department regarding processes, communication (internal and external), project management, documentation, and quality standards.
- Participate in assigned training programs and work on assignments as per requirements.
- Participate in and/or lead client calls as per project requirements, demonstrating strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ensure compliance with quality, confidentiality, data privacy, and security requirements. Adhere to and follow quality systems, processes, policies, training requirements, and project specifications.
Desired Profile (Experience & Key Skills)
- Mandatory: Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience in medical/scientific writing, with strong hands-on Medical Affairs experience, preferably within pharmaceutical companies, biotech organizations, CROs, or medical communications agencies.
- Experience in using Generative AI tools for medical/scientific writing or Medical Affairs-related activities is preferable. Ability to demonstrate practical application of Gen AI in previous work would be ideal.
- Strong understanding of Medical Affairs functions and experience developing content/materials for Medical Affairs stakeholders and/or pharmaceutical clients.
- Understanding of one or more specialty areas of medicine is preferred, along with a strong overall understanding of the medical/scientific field.
- Strong flair and passion for scientific and medical writing, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, accurate, and engaging content.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and medical/scientific stakeholders.
- Ability to independently manage projects, prioritize deliverables, meet timelines, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for networking and stakeholder engagement, including interaction with Medical Affairs teams, subject-matter experts, KOLs, and clients, as applicable.
- Ability to stay up to date with the latest medical, scientific, digital, and technology developments and apply relevant insights to projects.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Basic knowledge of statistical concepts, data interpretation, and evaluation of scientific/clinical data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to critically review scientific content for accuracy, consistency, clarity, and compliance.
- Educational qualification: M. Pharm / Pharm. D / BDS / MDS / Ph.D. / Any Life Sciences graduate with relevant publication, Medical Affairs, or medical/scientific writing experience.
