Job Description
The Senior Assistant Director serves as the functional head for Learning & Interpretation, providing strategic leadership for Bay East Garden's learning, interpretation and visitor engagement initiatives. The role is responsible for developing the Garden's interpretation philosophy, education strategy and visitor learning framework, ensuring that visitors of all ages are engaged through meaningful, accessible and inspiring learning experiences that complement the Garden's identity and the Founders Memorial.
The role leads the development of interpretation, education programmes, volunteer initiatives, and strategic partnerships with educational, community and research institutions, while building organisational capability within the Learning & Interpretation function.
Key Responsibilities
▪ Develop and implement the Learning & Interpretation strategy aligned with the vision for Bay East Garden.
▪ Lead the planning and delivery of interpretation, education and visitor learning initiatives.
▪ Develop partnerships with schools, institutes of higher learning, community organisations and subject matter experts.
▪ Oversee volunteer strategy, training and engagement.
▪ Guide the development of interpretive media, learning resources and visitor engagement programmes.
▪ Lead the team, manage resources and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
▪ Degree in Education, Museum Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
▪ At least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in education, interpretation, public engagement, museums, visitor attractions or related fields.
▪ Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.
▪ Experience developing organisation-wide learning or interpretation strategies and programmes.
▪ Strong stakeholder engagement, partnership development and communication skills.
▪ Experience in public gardens, museums, cultural institutions, tourism or visitor attractions.
