Senior Applications Engineer – Semiconductor Design & Silicon Photonics

We are partnering with a leading global semiconductor company looking to appoint an experienced Applications Engineer to support its growing customer base in Taiwan. This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to become the first Applications Engineering representative for this function in Taiwan, working directly with a US-based manager and collaborating closely with international sales, marketing and engineering teams. The successful candidate will act as a key technical interface between the company and its customers, supporting semiconductor design activities and helping customers successfully adopt advanced process technologies. Customers include leading hyperscalers, optical communications companies and semiconductor businesses developing next-generation solutions for AI data centres and high-speed connectivity.

About the Role

This is a newly created Senior Applications Engineer position in Taiwan, acting as the first Applications Engineering representative locally, working directly with a US-based manager and collaborating closely with international sales, marketing and engineering teams. The successful candidate will act as a key technical interface between the company and its customers, supporting semiconductor design activities and helping customers successfully adopt advanced process technologies.

Responsibilities

Act as the primary technical contact for customers in Taiwan, providing applications engineering and design support.
Work closely with customers to understand their design requirements, resolve technical challenges and support successful project execution.
Support customers working with semiconductor technologies including Silicon Photonics, Analog, CMOS and SiGe BiCMOS.
Collaborate with global engineering, sales and marketing teams to support customer design activities and new business opportunities.
Provide technical guidance throughout the design process, including design enablement, PDKs, design tools and tape-out activities where relevant.
Build strong relationships with customer engineering teams and communicate technical information effectively.
Coordinate with international stakeholders to resolve customer issues and ensure a high standard of technical support.

Qualifications

Experience in semiconductor engineering, applications engineering, design enablement or a related technical role.
A technical background in one or more of the following:
Silicon Photonics or photonic integrated circuits (PICs)
Analog or mixed-signal IC design
CMOS or SiGe BiCMOS technologies
RF or high-speed semiconductor technologies
Foundry applications engineering or semiconductor design enablement

Strong customer-facing experience, ideally supporting external engineering or design teams.
Excellent communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with international teams.
Good English communication skills.
You do not need to be an expert in Silicon Photonics. Candidates with relevant analog, CMOS, BiCMOS or foundry applications experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Preferred Skills

Experience working for a semiconductor foundry, analog semiconductor company, optical communications business or semiconductor design services provider.
Familiarity with PDKs, design flows, IC development or tape-out processes.
Exposure to optical transceivers, high-speed connectivity, AI data centres or advanced semiconductor packaging.
Experience supporting international customers or collaborating with global engineering teams.
