Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and test software modules for medical robotic systems, including sensing, perception, kinematics, motion planning, control, and human-machine interaction.
  • Implement forward and inverse kinematics, coordinate transformations, calibration methods, and trajectory-generation algorithms for robotic manipulators or medical devices.
  • Integrate cameras, depth sensors, force/torque sensors, encoders, tracking systems, and other sensing components used in image-guided or robot-assisted workflows.
  • Develop computer vision and 3D perception modules for instrument detection, patient or anatomy localization, pose estimation, point-cloud processing, and scene understanding.
  • Use robotics middleware and simulation environments to prototype and validate algorithms before deployment on physical hardware.
  • Support integration of medical imaging data, such as DICOM-derived anatomy, segmentation masks, surface models, or planned trajectories, into robotic guidance workflows.
  • Conduct module-level and system-level testing, document test results, analyze failures, and support verification of robotic functions under defined operating scenarios.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions for surgical robotics, interventional systems, rehabilitation robotics, or clinical automation.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation covering software design, interfaces, assumptions, calibration procedures, experiments, and results.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Less than 3 years of professional, research, internship, or project experience in robotics, automation, control systems, computer vision, or medical-device development.
  • Strong understanding of rigid-body transformations, coordinate frames, forward and inverse kinematics, basic dynamics, motion planning, and feedback control.
  • Hands-on programming experience in C++ and/or Python, with good software engineering and debugging practices.
  • Experience with ROS or ROS 2 and familiarity with robotics concepts such as nodes, topics, services, transforms, robot descriptions, and sensor integration.
  • Exposure to simulation tools such as Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, CoppeliaSim, Webots, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with computer vision or 3D processing libraries such as OpenCV, PCL, Open3D, Eigen, or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to work with sensors, embedded or robotic hardware, communication interfaces, and basic laboratory test equipment.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to safety and detail, and ability to document experiments, interfaces, and test outcomes clearly.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with robotics, imaging, software, systems, quality, and clinical-domain teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to image-guided surgery, surgical robotics, interventional robotics, rehabilitation robotics, navigation systems, or medical-device automation.
  • Familiarity with registration, tracking, hand-eye calibration, robot-to-image coordinate mapping, or patient-specific path planning.
  • Understanding of force control, impedance or admittance control, collision detection, safety limits, and fail-safe behavior.
  • Experience with RGB-D cameras, optical or electromagnetic tracking, point clouds, SLAM, pose estimation, or deep-learning-based perception.
  • Basic knowledge of medical imaging formats and tools such as DICOM, 3D Slicer, SimpleITK, VTK, or similar frameworks.
Good to have
  • Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop, model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, or processor-in-the-loop validation approaches.
  • Experience developing lightweight user interfaces, visualization tools, or operator consoles using Qt, Unity, web frameworks, or similar tools.
  • Awareness of medical-device software lifecycle, risk management, usability engineering, cybersecurity, and regulatory expectations such as IEC 62304, ISO 14971, or IEC 60601 concepts.
