Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position in the School of Governance and Policy Science to assist with research projects analysing Chinese politics and political economy with computational techniques.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree in Computational Social Science, Data Science, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology or relevant disciplines, preferably a Master%27s degree (ii) strong programming skills in R and/or Python and experience with Data Annotation, Textual Analysis, Machine Learning, and Large Language Models (iii) understanding of the Chinese government and policy systems (iv) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (v) the ability to work independently and collaboratively and (vi) strong academic and research capabilities, particularly in data analysis, paper writing, and project coordination. Familiarity with ML model training and LLM application is a plus.
While technical knowledge is expected, we value independent thinkers who can contribute original ideas and help execute research plans. The appointee will be responsible for (a) assisting with data annotation for large-scale government documents (b) assisting with training machine learning models for text classification (c) conducting qualitative and quantitative data analyses (d) contributing to manuscript and grant drafting and (e) performing other research-related tasks as assigned.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance, mutual agreement and funding availability.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
