The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland, is committed to advancing patient service, research, and training and education to the highest quality in all major areas of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. We are also dedicated to worthwhile community programmes and public education projects. The Department, always in search of excellence, is looking for candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, and ophthalmic studies on disease entities including, ocular surface diseases, refractive surgeries, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, children eye diseases, autoimmune diseases and retina diseases. We are highly committed to supporting the career development of all staff members.
Applicants should have/be (i) a Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in Health Science, Biological or Biomedical Science, Computer Science or related disciplines (ii) proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (especially Cantonese) (iii) a keen interest in clinical in the field of ophthalmology and visual sciences (iv) a highly self-motivated, resourceful, and forward-looking work attitude with strong organisational skills and (v) personal integrity, a strong teamwork spirit, excellent communication skills, and an attentive, kind manner towards patients. Those with a background in AI or computer science would be preferred. Fresh undergraduate candidates are welcome to apply. Those without a Bachelor's degree or relevant working experience will be considered for appointment as a Junior Research Assistant.
Duties include (a) supporting clinical research and performing ophthalmic investigations for glaucoma/retinal studies and community outreach screenings, including interacting with patients and scheduling follow-ups (b) providing support in database management, data extraction, data entry and processing (c) preparing study materials, assisting in ethics committee submissions and (d) performing other duties as assigned. In-house and on-the-job training will be provided where appropriate.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
