Research Assistant Professor

Applications are invited for appointment asResearch Assistant Professor in the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (the Population Hub),Faculty of Social Sciences(Ref.:536109), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

This position will immerse the appointees in both academic research and teaching in the multi-disciplinary team of the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies () within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointees will be primarily responsible for the following:

• Involve in on-going research projects of the Population Hub
• Draft proposals, reports, and presentations relevant to the projects
• Perform advanced quantitative data analysis
• Publish high-quality academic papers in peer-reviewed journals
• Mentor junior research staff
• Teach one undergraduate or taught postgraduate course per year, if required and
• Support and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

The appointees are expected to have:

• A Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences, Sociology, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a relevant discipline
• A strong quantitative background and extensive experience in managing and analysing large and complex datasets expertise in Computational Social Science and proficiency in longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, and state-of-the-art statistical models would be an advantage
• The ability to develop a strong body of high-quality publications in scholarly journals with global impact
• The ability to multitask and work under tight schedules to meet project deadlines
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• A strong commitment to teaching and training activities in the Population Hub and the Faculty
• A strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, and work ethics
• Good analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
