Research Assistant I/II in the Department of Geography

We now invite applications for the captioned post(s).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect, download, process, and analyze large-scale geospatial big data and remote sensing datasets
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, dashboards, and data visualizations
  • Perform Linux-based server administration, HPC management, and overall data center operations
  • Collaborate with team members on interdisciplinary projects
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience preferably in data science, geography, remote sensing, GIS, or related disciplines
  • Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
  • Practical skills in Linux system administration and maintenance
  • Solid understanding of common remote sensing data types, principles, and processing workflows
  • Demonstrated experience in downloading, processing, analyzing, and visualizing remote sensing and geospatial data
  • Proficiency in geospatial software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalents
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, and AI techniques
  • Prior experience in processing satellite remote sensing data
  • Experience with overall Linux data center/server room operations and maintenance

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
