Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Oracle Analytics, Python & Access Reporting Modernisation Architect to lead the end-to-end modernisation of a legacy Microsoft Access-based reporting solution integrated with Oracle databases.
The candidate will assess existing Access databases, queries, macros, VBA modules, and reports, and migrate the reporting processes to a modern, scalable, and secure solution using Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), BI Publisher, Oracle SQL/PLSQL, and Python automation.
The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Oracle database development, reporting technologies, Python-based automation, and legacy reporting migration, along with the ability to independently drive solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legacy System Assessment and Migration
- Assess existing Microsoft Access databases, linked Oracle tables, queries, macros, VBA modules, forms, and reports.
- Document current reporting workflows, data refresh processes, schedules, dependencies, and report distribution mechanisms.
- Map existing Access business logic and reporting requirements to the target architecture.
- Define the migration strategy using OAS, BI Publisher, Python automation, or a combination of these technologies.
2. Oracle Database Development
- Develop, optimise, and maintain Oracle SQL queries, views, materialised views, PL/SQL packages, and stored procedures.
- Convert existing Access SQL and VBA business logic into Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, or Python-based transformations.
- Perform SQL performance tuning using execution plans, AWR/ASH analysis, and other database performance diagnostics.
- Implement secure database connectivity, access controls, and production deployment practices.
3. Oracle Analytics Server and BI Publisher
- Develop OAS analyses, dashboards, prompts, filters, and drill-down reports.
- Create BI Publisher data models, report layouts, templates, bursting configurations, and schedules.
- Migrate legacy Access reports into standardised, governed, and parameterised reporting solutions.
- Configure report security, user access, roles, groups, and folder permissions.
4. Python Reporting and Automation
- Develop Python scripts and automation frameworks to extract Oracle data, transform datasets, validate results, and generate reports.
- Use Python libraries such as pandas, oracledb/cx_Oracle, SQLAlchemy, openpyxl, XlsxWriter, and NumPy.
- Implement logging, exception handling, audit trails, restartability, and data reconciliation mechanisms.
- Automate reporting workflows using Control-M, AutoSys, Windows Task Scheduler, or equivalent scheduling tools.
5. Testing, Deployment, and Production Support
- Perform unit, system, regression, and parallel-run testing to validate migrated reports against existing Access outputs.
- Prepare deployment plans, rollback procedures, production validation checklists, and operational runbooks.
- Troubleshoot reporting issues, resolve defects, and optimise database queries and Python processes.
- Coordinate with business users, DBAs, infrastructure, security, and application support teams.
- Provide knowledge transfer and support post-implementation stabilisation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Oracle Database: Strong expertise in Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, views, materialised views, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
- Oracle Analytics: Hands-on experience with Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) or OBIEE, including analyses, dashboards, subject areas, prompts, filters, and security.
- BI Publisher: Experience with data models, RTF/Excel templates, bursting, scheduling, and PDF/Excel/CSV report generation.
- Python: Strong Python 3.x development skills, particularly in reporting automation, data processing, and report generation.
- Microsoft Access: Experience with Access databases, linked Oracle tables, pass-through queries, macros, VBA, forms, and reports.
- Data Processing: Experience with pandas, SQLAlchemy, oracledb/cx_Oracle, openpyxl, or XlsxWriter.
- DevOps and Release Management: Familiarity with Git, Azure DevOps/GitHub, CI/CD concepts, deployment processes, and environment management.

- 5+ years of experience in OAS/OBIEE and BI Publisher development.
- 5+ years of hands-on Python development for reporting and data automation.
- 3+ years of experience in Microsoft Access/VBA migration or legacy reporting modernisation.
- Experience in financial services or other controlled enterprise environments is preferred.
- Ability to independently lead end-to-end implementation and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Expected Deliverables
- Current-state assessment and inventory of Microsoft Access objects.
- Source-to-target report mapping and data lineage documentation.
- Target-state architecture and migration strategy.
- Optimised Oracle SQL/PLSQL components.
- OAS dashboards and BI Publisher reports, where applicable.
- Python-based reporting automation framework.
