Quality Assurance Engineer

(Device Drivers - Windows Verification Engineer | NB & Tablet)

Design verification activities to design quality into Surface products. Activities include develop and execution test plans and procedures. Perform functional, stress, system, and other types of testing.

Understand test and logging tools requirements and executions, must be able to execute tests with little to no supervision.

Find complex bugs, root cause, and track them while documenting and informing others of all appropriate and relevant info.

Platform Test for Microsoft Surface laptops and tablets.

Key stakeholder to co-work:

Development team in Taiwan, China, US, or India, it depends on different projects.

Workload:

1. Perform functional, stress, system testing: 70 %
2. App testing: 10 %
3. Develop Test plan & procedures: 10 %
4. Create test for new features/apps: 10%

Responsibilities:

• Drive Design Verification efforts to ensure product quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle, incl. the Creation and Execution of Test Cases and Processes.
• Conduct various types of Testing such as Functional, Stress, System-level, and other Validation activities to verify Device Performance and Reliability.
• Understand the Requirements and Usage of Test and Logging tools, and independently execute Validation tasks with Minimal supervision.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, perform Root Cause Analysis, and track defects while Documenting and communicating all relevant findings to stakeholders.
• Platform Test for Microsoft Surface laptops and tablets.

Required Skills:

• Computer related

1. Basic understanding of Computer Networking
2. Knowledge of OS Setup in devices
3. Exp. w/ Driver sideloading on devices, Flash devices
4. 3+ yrs exp. on Testing device - planned test cases, adhoc testing

• Tests & Bug Analysis

1. Solid understanding of Testing Methodologies
2. Execute testing based on both planned test cases & Ad-hoc scenarios
3. Capable of Creating clear & accurate Reproduction Steps for bug tracking
4. Ability to Reproduce Issues w/ additional logging as needed by dev teams
5. Perform App Testing on devices
6. Enhance & Develop Test Cases for New Features & Applications

• Communication

1. Collaborate across cross-functional teams & communicate via email, chat or meetings
2. Generate testing reports & Summarize test results.
3. Strong Written & Verbal communication skills in English

Additional Desirable Skills:

• Ability to develop Scripts to Automate testing or Log Collection tasks w/ the help of AI (i.e. Claude, Antigravity, Codex, Replit, etc.)
• Understanding of Driver Architecture & Functionality
• Data-driven mindset for presenting test results through reports & Analytics
• Ability to simplify Testing Processes to improve efficiency
• Exp. in working w/ Power BI report
• Exp. in Performance Analysis tools
• Exp. in 3rd party analysis tools
• Able to work in ambiguous need and adapting to evolving testing requirements

Other qualifications

• Bilingual capability is required (Mandarin & English). Mandarin speaking/reading is an essential skill in HCLTech Taiwan.
• Taiwan APRC is required w/ expat.
