Job Description

Principal Engineer - Photonics Reliability

Location: Hsinchu (on-site)

Ayar Labs is shattering AI data bottlenecks by moving data at the speed of light. As pioneers of co-packaged optics (CPO), we are using light instead of electricity to move data faster, further, and with a fraction of the energy needed to fuel the explosive growth of AI models.

Backed by industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD and Intel and manufactured in partnership with the world's leading semiconductor ecosystem, Ayar Labs co-packaged optics solution is key to unleashing next-generation AI scale-up architectures.

We are seeking an experienced Photonics Reliability Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for reliability engineering, conducting failure analysis investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive product reliability from NPI to production.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Expertise:

  • Working with cross functional teams. Understand design and process factors that are related to Si-Photonics reliability and/or performance.
  • Conduct DOE in reliability stress to understand reliability failure modes, develop aging models to enable and DPPM/FIT rate prediction for intrinsic and extrinsic reliability.

Failure Analysis

  • Conduct detailed failure analysis investigations, including physical failure analysis (PFA) and electrical failure analysis (EFA)
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), focused ion beam (FIB), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to identify failure mechanisms

Root Cause Analysis

  • Employ statistical analysis and problem-solving techniques to identify root causes of failures
  • Collaborate with design and process engineering teams to implement design and process changes to address root causes

Data Analysis And Reporting

  • Analyze failure data to identify trends and patterns
  • Generate comprehensive failure analysis reports and presentations
  • Communicate complex technical information in regards to reliability to a wide range of audiences, including engineering, management, and customers

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor device physics and processes, failure mechanisms, and materials science
  • 10+ years of industry experience in semiconductor reliability
  • Proficiency in advanced analytical techniques, such as X-ray, CSAM, TDR, FIB, SEM, and TEM
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data mining techniques
  • Experience in any of the following fields: Silicon Photonics, packaging reliability, reliability model development and new technology introduction
  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aging model, qualification, or process development for Silicon Photonics
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience in qualification and failure analysis of photonic integrated circuit
  • CPO or related packaging reliability applicable to Silicon Photonics industry
  • Familiar with fault isolation technique, ATE, and Scan/ATPG debug
  • Working experience in major Silicon Photonics foundries or technology vendors
