Job Description
Postdoctoral Researcher (Clinical Metabolomics in Oncology)
Company Description
Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) is a JCI-accredited, multi-specialty academic medical center located in Guishan District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Established in 1978, CGMH is one of Taiwan's largest and most respected medical and educational institutions, with nearly 4,000 beds and 29 specialty centers. The hospital has trained more than 1,700 physicians from 75 countries in the past decade and serves a significant portion of the Taiwanese population, including the highest number of international patients in Taiwan. CGMH is recognized as a leader in medical innovation, research, and teaching, and has been featured in international media for its clinical achievements. The hospital is committed to patient-centered care, providing high-quality medical services supported by advanced technology and strong academic values, with active translational research programs in clinical oncology.
Role Description
The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct advanced research in collaboration with clinical and scientific teams, focusing on the application of metabolomics to clinical oncology, with particular emphasis on gastrointestinal and head and neck cancers (such as hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatic, gastric, colorectal, oral cavity, and nasopharyngeal cancers). Research projects will involve mass spectrometry-based metabolomic profiling of clinical biospecimens (e.g., plasma, serum, urine, and tissue) to discover and validate biomarkers for early detection, prognosis, treatment response, and treatment-related toxicity, and to elucidate metabolic mechanisms underlying tumor biology, in alignment with the hospital's academic and innovation priorities.
Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and performing experiments; acquiring, processing, and statistically analyzing metabolomics datasets and integrating them with clinical outcome data; preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals; and contributing to grant proposals and reports. The role also involves mentoring junior researchers or students, presenting research findings at internal meetings and external conferences, and adhering to institutional and regulatory guidelines for research ethics and safety, including protocols involving human subjects and clinical specimens. This is a contract role based on-site at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan City, requiring regular presence in laboratory and clinical research environments and close coordination with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, and biostatisticians.
Qualifications
- Strong laboratory skills relevant to the hospital's research domains, including experimental design, instrumentation handling, and standard laboratory procedures; hands-on experience with metabolomics platforms such as LC-MS or NMR spectroscopy is highly desirable.
- Robust research and data analysis skills, including hypothesis formulation, statistical analysis, and interpretation of complex datasets; familiarity with metabolomics data processing and multivariate statistical methods (e.g., using R, Python, or MetaboAnalyst) is a strong advantage.
- Prior research experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, or related omics fields is strongly preferred, particularly in cancer research or studies involving clinical cohorts; experience with gastrointestinal or head and neck cancers is especially welcome.
- Solid knowledge of analytical chemistry where applicable to the research projects, such as mass spectrometry, chromatographic separation, or metabolite biochemistry.
- Solid knowledge of physics where applicable to the research projects, such as medical physics, imaging physics, or biophysics.
- Teaching and mentoring abilities to support training of students, junior researchers, and clinical staff in research-related activities.
- Doctoral degree (PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as biomedical sciences, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, metabolomics, medical physics, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience presenting at scientific conferences.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English; proficiency in Mandarin is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary, cross-cultural teams and to manage multiple research tasks under defined timelines.
- Familiarity with research ethics, regulatory compliance, and good laboratory practice; prior experience in a clinical or hospital research setting, particularly involving human biospecimens or patient data, is a plus.
