Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate (Data Analyst)

The Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK LAW) is seeking a talented and motivated Data Analyst to support evidence-based decision-making and institutional advancement through advanced data analysis and reporting, and to spearhead the collection, analysis, and visualisation of data related to CUHK LAW's operations, student outcomes, faculty research, and alumni success since its founding in 2006. This recognition is further reflected in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2020) conducted by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee, where CUHK LAW's research strength was underscored by an impressive 83% of its research activities being rated as world-leading (4.) or internationally excellent (3.). With a strong global outlook, our academic staff represent nearly twenty jurisdictions through their origins or training.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline (for Postdoctoral Fellow) OR a Master's degree in the abovementioned disciplines and a minimum of four years of post-qualification relevant work experience in data analytics and visualisation (for Research Associate) (ii) an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (iii) strong statistical skills and experience with data mining techniques (iv) proficiency in data analysis tools and data visualisation software (v) excellent communication and presentation skills and (vi) the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with legal education and the legal profession is a plus.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) assisting in the development and implementation of data analytics projects that draw from diverse sources (b) collaborating with internal stakeholders, IT teams, and system workgroups to identify data opportunities and drive data-informed planning and decision making (c) conducting data mining and statistical analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights related to student performance, faculty productivity, alumni career paths, and other key metrics (d) preparing data visualisations and reports to communicate findings for internal use and presentation and (e) maintaining data privacy and security protocols in accordance with university policies.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
