Part-time Assistant Computer Officer

The Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (HKIAPS) is seeking an IT professional to support its IT functions and infrastructure, particularly under a Public Policy Research Funded project about the assessment of Health Behaviour in School-aged Children in Hong Kong.Working as a project team expert for IT-related matters, the appointee will be primarily responsible for providing operational support for webpage infrastructure construction for HBSC homepage, questionnaires and the aftermath data analysis.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) designing three sets of questionnaires using Qualtrics or thesurvey platforms developed by HKIAPS for students, teachers, and school administrators (b) operatinge-survey trial testing, debugging, and close collaboration with the research team on e-survey questionnaire distribution and collection with tailor-made settings(c) assisting preliminary data management (codebook, dataset cleaning) and aftermath analysis (in advanced multivariate analysis) (d) developing a dedicated project webpage to document all HK-HBSC-related promotional leaflets, previous reports of HK-HBSC 2020, and related newsletters and publications for better knowledge transfer (e) providing inclusive website maintenance within the contract period, including: (1) unlimited page text and photo updates (2) minor layout touch-ups (3) site migration to a new server (4) error and bug fixing (5) site hack prevention and system file re-upload/restoration (6) data backup for recovery (twice during the entire service period) and (7) backstage control, analysis, and usage monitoring and (f) following the instruction of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s) to perform other IT related tasks (i.e., webpage construction or UI design) and resolve IT-related problems.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree or above in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline from a recognised university (ii) at least 2 to 4 years relevant post-qualification work experience, preferably with solid experience in (1) frontend technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, or Next.js), (2) Strong backend or CMS experience: Node.js, Python (Django/Flask), PHP, (3) familiarity with web server configuration (NGINX or Apache) and web/database security including HTTPS/SSL setup, and(4) knowledge of modern infrastructure tools: Git, Docker, NGINX, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) (iii) experience and being sensitive in IT security for the protection of project data from cybersecurity threats (iv) good analytical, troubleshooting, organisational and communication skills, with a proactive and service-oriented attitude (v) the ability to work independently and (vi) a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Capability of assisting in data analysis and advanced multivariate analysis tool (SPSS, R Studio, STATA, etc.) will be an advantage.

Appointment will be made on an 8-month contract commencing as soon as possible.
