Optical Engine Product & Process Integration Engineer

Molex is seeking an Optical Engine Design Integration Engineer to join our Optical Solution Business Unit (OSBU). You will be part of a world-class engineering team, responsible for integrating opto-mechanical and process designs for optical engines. This includes module-level package design during the feasibility phase to validate key components and optical engine functionality such as PICs (photonic integrated chips), laser diodes, opto-mechanical architecture, thermal/stress management and manufacturability.

You will integrate the optical design, structural design, thermal-stress simulation, and define specifications for components and processes. From the optical engine perspective, you will also define process requirements, process flows, and lead development and validation. The PIE will coordinate cross-functional efforts across global teams to address design requirements, lifecycle management, and issue resolution. This is a key leadership role supporting the long-term success and competitiveness of our optical engine products and portfolio of optical transceivers. Oversea travel is expected.

This role will be in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

What You Will Do (Job Description)


  • Collaborate with PIC and component engineering teams to define specifications for PICs, laser diodes, and photodiodes. Manage link budget and DFM assessments for both transmission and receiving paths.
  • Work with IC Packaging team to define package requirements based on qualified processes and simulation results.
  • Provide opto-mechanical design requirements to the mechanical team for layout, tolerance, and thermal stress design management. Review design outputs and validations.
  • Provide optical design requirements to the optical design team for optical design management. Review design outputs and validations.
  • Provide process specifications to process team for process design management. Review process designs and validations.
  • Lead module-level mechanical design during feasibility phase, breaking down requirements for optical, mechanical, assembly, and alignment processes. Oversee TV builds and validates optical and thermal performance.
  • During NPI phase:
  • Lead cross-functional teams in optical engine design, process integration, and validation to meet performance, reliability, UPH, and yield goals.
  • Manage design deliverables and ensure compliance with OSBU's product development process.
  • For sustaining programs, lead resolution of optical engine issues which require deep integration knowledge.
  • Work with PMs to ensure timely delivery aligned with program plans.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • 3+ years experience in optical engine design and integration in fiber optics industry
  • Strong knowledge of OE components, optics, thermal-mechanical and process flows
  • Good interpersonal skills, embracing challenges and leadership
  • Good teamwork, ownership, initiative, with a sense of urgency

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Master's degree
  • 5+ years experience of optical engine design management in fiber optics industry, especially the light engine integrated with Silicon Photonic Integrated Chip
  • Program management experience
