MVS Systems Programmer / Mainframe Automation Engineer (OPS/MVS, IBM System Automation)

Job Summary

• Responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing automation solutions in IBM z/OS environments
• Utilizes IBM System Automation (SA z/OS) and Broadcom OPS/MVS
• Ensures stability and availability of mainframe systems through workflow automation
• Manages message-driven automation and supports enterprise operations teams

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automation rules and scripts using SA z/OS and OPS/MVS
• Design event-driven automation for system resources, console messages, and job conditions
• Build automated recovery procedures for DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, JES2/JES3
• Configure message automation and suppression rules
• Implement automated IPL routines and startup/shutdown workflows
• Integrate automation with enterprise schedulers like Control-M or IWS
• Diagnose automation failures, loops, and rule conflicts
• Perform root cause analysis for automation incidents
• Support multi-LPAR, SYSPLEX, and GDPS environments
• Analyze automation rule performance and optimize message handling
• Maintain documentation and support ITIL-compliant change management

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in IBM System Automation (SA z/OS)
• Hands-on experience with OPS/MVS including AOF rules and OPS/REXX
• Proficiency in z/OS operations, console management, JES2/JES3
• Programming skills in REXX, CLIST, and JCL
• Experience automating DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, RACF subsystems
• Understanding of SYSPLEX, XCF, and multi-system automation environments
