Responsibilities:
Process Development
• Set up and operate micro-extruder (lab/pilot scale)
• Design and test custom dies/nozzles
• Optimize:
o Melt temperature profile
o Screw speed / pressure
o Throughput vs line speed
o Pattern resolution
o Adhesive laydown consistency (g/m² control)
• Evaluate bead stability and pattern fidelity
Materials Research
• Study rheology vs printability (MFI, viscosity curves)
• Compare pellet vs powder vs reactive systems
• Investige compatibility with:
o Nylon
o Polyester
o Membranes (ePTFE, PU)
o Downproof fabrics
• Assess bond strength, peel, wash durability
Mechanical Design
• Modify extrusion head for finer resolution
• Improve cooling / quench strategy
• Reduce stringing or tailing
• Minimize die build-up
• Design quick-change tooling
Data & Documentation
• Design DOE trials
• Establish process window
• Document scale-up considerations
Requirements:
• Mechanical Engineering degree
• Experience with:
o Single screw extrusion
o Micro-extrusion
o 3D printing (FDM experience is highly relevant)
• Experience with thermoplastics (TPU ideal)
• Comfortable working in lab / pilot environment Nice to Have
• Rheology knowledge
• Experience in adhesive systems
• Experience designing dies in SolidWorks
• Apparel / flexible film experience
