Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Engineer III. The successful candidate will work closely with Hardware Development, Manufacturing, Test and our Customers to support our growing product line of Point of Sale solutions. This is a fast-paced, highly technical and continually evolving business. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background working in the Retail Industry having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Success in this role will require a candidate to have a strong background in hardware design and experience using multiple CAD software applications, specifically SolidWorks, in conjunction with developing, building, testing, and inspecting both internal and external product designs.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Leads hardware product development in the Plan and design of Point of Sale hardware systems and parts while collaborating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and working with vendors and suppliers in communicating specifications and requirements.
- Leads hardware product development ensuring design specifications and quality requirements are met through design reviews and product test phases.
- Leads debug of problems found during product development including identifying risks, technical problems and recommending solutions.
- Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software and assisting with parts creation using 3D design tools
- Evaluation of vendor designs
- Product Life Cycle support – provides technical engineering support for field issues, EOL components and cost reductions.
- Provides technical mentorship to suppliers and global engineering team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient with SolidWorks design tools, Retail industry experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Ability to read and understand designs and schematics
- Lead the application of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles during concept development, system architecture, detailed design, verification, and product validation phases.
- Conduct risk assessments using DFMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and reliability engineering methodologies to achieve robust product performance.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Engineering, and Product Management to ensure designs meet performance, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, root cause analysis, and design standardization.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles including structural design, materials selection, thermal management, tolerancing, and manufacturability.
- Solid understanding of thermal management technologies including forced-air cooling, liquid cooling, cold plates, thermal interface materials, and airflow optimization.
- Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis and managing manufacturing variation.
- Experience supporting engineering change management and product lifecycle management processes.
- Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers through development, qualification, and production ramp.
- Lead design reviews and contribute to system architecture discussions across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles throughout product development.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and integration challenges.
- Develop verification and validation plans for mechanical, structural, thermal, and environmental performance requirements.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and integration issues.
- Support engineering change management and configuration control processes.
- Communicate technical concepts, risks, recommendations, and trade-offs effectively to stakeholders.
- Review supplier designs, manufacturing feedback, tooling approaches, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to cost optimization and value engineering initiatives through supplier collaboration and design improvements.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company processes.
- Generate and maintain engineering documentation including specifications, manufacturing drawings, and GD&T requirements.
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and be involved with multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and dynamic high-tech environment.
