Design engineering it at the core of this growth. The business is looking to expand its team of engineers by establishing a design team in Taiwan to work along side the teams in the UK and US.
Job Purpose
You will be working as part of a highly skilled engineering team that will be responsible for specifying and designing laser and EDM machine tools, associated tooling and ancillary equipment. We are looking for you to have a strong technical background and a sound understanding of mechanical engineering design and safety practice in relation to the design of machine tools.
This role covers all mechanical aspects of the design process including specification, concept design, detailed design, artifact design, build definition, release and maintenance of bill of materials into an MRP system and certification of the final product.
You should be familiar with working to a systematic gated design process, ensuring that designs are developed with correct attention to ease of manufacture, sourcing of parts and assembly, that the release of design definition into the MRP system is managed correctly and that there is a well documented hand over to the production team for the manufacture and testing of the machine.
Requirements
- Specification and design of machine tool assemblies, systems, and associated tooling and ancillary equipment including production of detail drawings, BOM's and assembly drawings
- Liaison with suppliers (internal and external) to ensure externally sourced components are cost-effectively manufactured to meet design requirements
- Work concurrently with the production engineering teams to ensure Design for Manufacture
- Work concurrently with the sourcing teams to ensure bought out parts can be sourced at the right price and availability
- Ensure designs are mechanically sound and enable the machine specification requirements to be met
- Provide mechanical input and content for product documentation (manuals and technical construction/certification files)
Qualification/Experience
- Mechanical engineering degree qualified and fluent in English
- Travel requirements: Must be able to travel to UK. In the first two years of the role it is anticipated that there will be a need to travel to the UK a number of times for periods of up to 6 months
- Experience in machine tool design
- Fluent English speaker
- Min 5yrs experience in engineering design
- Experience using finite element analysis and modelling tools to optimise mechanical designs correctly
- Proven ability to carry out supporting calculations relating to designs
- Good working knowledge of geometric design and tolerance standards
- Experience using Inventor CAD
