Role Description

We are looking for a modern, hands-on Manager, IT Applications to lead our application engineering, data platform and AI-enabled transformation agenda. This is not a traditional system support role. The person will lead a nearshore engineering team, own software engineering delivery, and work closely with business users to turn operational pain points into practical digital solutions.

The role requires someone who can manage people, coach engineers, set clear expectations, and build a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for improving how the team builds and delivers software, including development workflows, solution design, code quality, release discipline, documentation and operational reliability. While this is a leadership role, we expect the person to remain technically hands-on enough to review designs, guide architecture, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute directly when the situation requires.

A key part of the role is to partner with business stakeholders to understand how work actually gets done, simplify processes, and drive meaningful technology adoption. You will translate business needs into applications, workflow improvements, automation, data products and AI-enabled use cases. The focus is not on technology for its own sake, but on building useful solutions that improve productivity, decision-making and user experience.

The role will also own and evolve the company's data platform, including data ingestion, transformation, governance, quality and consumption. You will work with stakeholders to turn fragmented data into usable datasets, dashboards, insights and AI-ready foundations. You will also help drive practical AI adoption across the organisation, including AI-assisted software development, automation, low-code/no-code tools and agentic workflows where they create real business value.

The Manager, IT Applications will plan and manage application, data, automation and AI-related projects from idea to implementation. This includes defining scope, priorities, timelines, resources, risks and success measures; coordinating with internal teams and vendors; tracking delivery progress; and ensuring solutions are delivered with proper testing, security, privacy, change control and documentation.

The successful candidate should be curious, pragmatic and delivery-oriented. You should be comfortable moving between people leadership, business conversations, solution architecture, engineering execution, data platform ownership and AI experimentation. The goal is to build a team and technology capability that can modernise how the organisation works, not just maintain existing systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of software engineering, application development or technology delivery experience, with at least 3 years of people management experience.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, software architecture, APIs, system integration, cloud platforms and modern engineering practices.
  • Hands-on technical background, with the ability to review designs, challenge assumptions, troubleshoot issues and guide engineering decisions.
  • Experience managing nearshore, offshore or distributed engineering teams will be an advantage.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to automation, low-code/no-code platforms, workflow tools or AI agents will be an advantage.
  • Experience working directly with business users to improve processes and drive adoption of digital solutions.
  • Strong project delivery skills, with the ability to balance speed, quality, governance and stakeholder expectations.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical topics in a business-friendly way.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Passion for technology, AI, data, automation and building better ways of working.
  • Willingness and ability to travel from time to time to engage with the nearshore team.
