Job Description

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Hardware Development Manager-Mechanical Engineering that will be responsible for leading a team of highly skilled direct reports, including engineers and other professionals, towards the development and support of TGCS strategic products for the worldwide retail market. The Manager will also be a member of the cross-functional team responsible for planning, developing and releasing the hardware products to the market. He will develop and nurture key relationships with product management, business partners, services, finance, procurement and other supporting groups to ensure the timely release of solutions that will fully satisfy demanding customer expectations. The Manager will provide team leadership to 3-4 Hardware missions/functions within Development Engineering, managing larger team sizes of junior to advanced skilled professionals and teams leads. This position requires people management experience, proven knowledge of hardware development processes and program management skills to drive cross-functional team activities with the understanding of requirements and business drivers for the new products and solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead mid-size teams of junior to experienced engineers with a focus on 3 to 4 missions/functions directly or via team lead engineers. Delivery of high-quality product releases and functionality. Successfully manage and coordinate complex, multi-phased programs by guiding cross-functional teams and business partners to define, scope, plan, and deliver high-quality hardware products. Manage the performance of the development team ensuring product commitments are met with respect to quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Promote continuous process improvement and sound hardware engineering practices across a global team to enable the development and support of innovative products. Identify and resolve problems, gaps, and challenges in hardware engineering processes.
  • Act as the single point of contact for all project activities, schedule, and status. Ensuring proper communication on development deliverables as appropriate up through executive management levels within the organization.
  • Enabling the sharing of best practices across a global development team. Foster an environment of collaboration, trust, and accountability for departmental and cross-functional teams. Mentor and develop team members to grow talent and strengthen organizational capability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in managing hardware development teams and projects.
  • 6+ years managing hardware development projects with strong team leadership skills.
  • Good analytic and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills to effectively interact with internal teams and external partners.
  • Product knowledge in the area of Retail and Point-of-Sale applications will be a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency in English.
