We are seeking a dedicated, highly skilled, and experienced Surface Treatment Production / Operations Manager to oversee our daily coating and surface finishing operations in Penang. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in powder coating, electroplating, or industrial painting systems with robust leadership skills to drive production efficiency, maintain stringent quality standards, and foster a culture of safety on the shop floor.

Working Hours: 45 hours per week | 5 days per week
Salary Range: RM 12,000 - RM 15,000 (Commensurate with experience)
Plan, organize, and direct daily surface treatment and coating production schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
Monitor and optimize production KPIs (e.g., OEE, yield rates, cycle times, and scrap reduction).
Lead, mentor, and manage the production team, ensuring optimal manpower allocation and skill development.
Oversee the entire surface preparation lifecycle, including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, masking, and primer/filler application.
Supervise the setup, operation, and calibration of powder coating, spray-painting, or chemical treatment equipment.
Ensure precise mixing, color-matching, and application of coatings to achieve uniform thickness and finish according to engineering specifications.
Establish and enforce strict quality control (QC) protocols to inspect coated items for color accuracy, thickness, adhesion, and smoothness.
Root-cause analyze defects (e.g., orange peel, pinholes, runs) and implement immediate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Ensure all final products meet internal standards and external customer specifications.
Implement and oversee a Preventive Maintenance (PM) program for spray guns, coating booths, ovens, and related machinery to minimize downtime.
Manage inventory levels for paints, chemicals, powders, and spare parts to avoid production bottlenecks.
Enforce strict compliance with Department of Environment (DOE) and DOSH regulations regarding chemical handling, storage, and scheduled waste disposal.
Ensure all team members are fully trained in safe work procedures and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain updated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and ensure a clean, hazard-free 5S working environment.
Degree/Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
Minimum 5-8 years of hands-on experience in industrial surface treatment, powder coating, or painting systems, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Deep technical knowledge of powder coating/painting chemistry, automated system setups, and curing oven parameters.
Perfect color vision with the ability to accurately distinguish and identify colors by name or industrial code.
Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Analytical mindset with experience in lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (the ability to speak Mandarin/Chinese dialects is an added advantage for vendor/customer communication).
