Legal Manager, APAC (Australia, Korea, Malaysia & Philippines)
We are seeking a highly capable and empathetic lawyer to join our Legal team in Singapore as Regional Counsel for Australia, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This is a substantive in-house role that combines deep legal advisory work with people leadership, requiring a practitioner who is equally comfortable navigating complex regulatory landscapes and engaging with senior stakeholders across the business and in government.
You will be the primary legal adviser for four important Traveloka markets, providing counsel on material legal issues that directly affect our operations and strategic direction. You will manage one direct report, with responsibility for their performance and professional development.
What You Will Do
Legal Advisory
- Provide clear, practical, and commercially-minded legal advice on material issues arising in Australia, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
- Advise on regulatory compliance, including licensing requirements, consumer protection, data privacy, employment law, and sector-specific regulations applicable to our travel and fintech products in each market.
- Manage and resolve legal risks associated with corporate matters, including entity governance and restructuring.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documentation relevant to the four territories.
- Conduct legal research and monitor regulatory developments in Australia, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines, proactively advising the business on emerging risks and compliance obligations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted adviser to a wide range of internal stakeholders, including senior business leaders, product, operations, finance, and HR teams, communicating legal risks and recommendations with clarity and confidence.
- Engage directly with external regulators, government agencies, and authorities across the four markets, managing relationships and representing Traveloka's interests in a professional and measured manner.
- Work closely with the HR team on employment matters, including sensitive employee-facing situations that require sound judgment and a high degree of empathy — such as restructuring scenarios and individual employment risks in Australia.
- Instruct and manage external counsel in relevant jurisdictions, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with Traveloka's legal strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE), with a strong preference for candidates admitted in Singapore or a common law jurisdiction.
- In-house experience, ideally gained at a technology company, ecommerce platform, OTA, or similarly fast-paced digital business.
- Exposure to one or more of the target markets (Australia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines) — whether through in-house roles, private practice, or secondments.
- Solid grounding in multi-jurisdictional regulatory matters, including at least one of: employment law, corporate/entity management, consumer protection, or sector-specific licensing.
- Experience engaging directly with regulators or government authorities is a strong advantage.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders, external counsel, regulators, and affected employees.
- The ability to combine a thorough understanding of local law and regulation with sound commercial judgment, delivering advice that is legally rigorous and practically useful.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple active matters across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
- Proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented — comfortable operating with autonomy while keeping appropriate stakeholders informed.
- People management capability, or a demonstrated ability and ambition to grow into a people leadership role.
