Job Description
The UL Solutions Six Sigma Master Black Belt is a senior continuous improvement leader responsible for driving operational excellence across Safety Certification laboratory testing processes. This role serves as an expert practitioner and instructor in Lean, Six Sigma, and advanced quality methodologies, delivering classroom and virtual training while mentoring Black Belts and Green Belts through DMAIC and Kaizen initiatives. The Master Black Belt develops and deploys new tools, influences enterprise‑wide quality and change initiatives, supports strategic project selection, and removes barriers to successful execution. This role partners closely with stakeholders to improve customer and employee outcomes, develops key quality performance metrics, and actively promotes process excellence, quality awareness, and data‑driven decision‑making across the business.
Responsibilities
- Masters all technical skills associated with Six Sigma, Lean, and other appropriate improvement techniques.
- Develops and shares new tools and techniques to further the advancement of Lean Six Sigma.
- Advocates and influences appropriate change and quality needs across UL, including project selection.
- Enables quality efforts to be felt by both ULs employees and customers.
- Plans, supports, and provides training to others in the Lean Six Sigma methodology.
- Trains Black Belt candidates on all or specific modules of ULs Lean Six Sigma curriculum.
- Completes training in ULs Lean Six Sigma DMAIC (Define Measure Analyze Improve and Control) methodology, ULs Lean Six Sigma Advanced Statistics, and Train the Trainer.
- Mentors Lean Six Sigma projects across UL, identifies and works to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful completion of a Lean Sigma project/kaizens.
- Attends and assesses project review sessions.
- Maintains and monitors key UL Quality performance metrics.
- Drives process excellence visibility and awareness across the business.
- Develops both present and future quality and business leaders.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- University Degree in Business, Engineering or Related Technical Discipline.
- Five years of experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring and consulting.
- Two years of proven success in a leadership role.
- Proficient in the use of project management tools and application of continuous process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma or equivalent.
- Proven Leadership Skills and Business Acumen; Performance Driven.
