Applications are invited for appointment asHead of Communications (at the rank of Assistant Registrar) (Ref.: 536104) in the Faculty of Business and Economics (HKU Business School), to commence from September 2026, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

HKU Business School, a leading institution in Asia, is seeking a dynamic, creative, and forward-thinking communications leader to drive its branding, marketing, and public affairs strategies in an increasingly digital and globally connected environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Dean and the Associate Dean (External Relations), the Head of Communications will lead the development and execution of events, communications, branding and marketing strategies to enhance the School's global reputation and visibility. The appointee will play a pivotal role in shaping compelling narratives, delivering high-quality events and initiatives, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and positioning the School at the forefront of business education.

Key responsibilities include:

  • developing and implementing innovative, data-driven communications and branding strategies across digital and traditional platforms
  • planning, coordinating and overseeing high-profile events, seminars and conferences that advance the School's strategic priorities and reinforce its brand and external partnerships
  • leading media relations, corporate communications, and public affairs initiatives, including crisis and issues management
  • driving content strategy across multiple channels, including social media, web, publications, and executive communications
  • leveraging emerging technologies, including AI and digital tools, to enhance audience engagement and communication effectiveness
  • building and maintaining strong relationships with media, industry partners, and key stakeholders locally, regionally, and internationally
  • leading, managing and mentoring a sizable, high-performing communications and events team, fostering clear communication, effective delegation and a collaborative culture, while working closely with internal units and external partners
  • serving as editorial lead for all official communications, including speeches, reports, press materials, and thought leadership content

The Candidate
Applicants should possess:

  • a good Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline
  • at least 10 to 12 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, corporate affairs, or public relations, including a minimum of 6 years in a senior leadership or supervisory role with responsibility for managing teams and resources
  • a strong track record in developing impactful communications campaigns and enhancing brand positioning
  • excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
  • strong understanding of digital communications, social media strategies, and emerging trends such as AI-enabled communications
  • strong organisational, leadership, and people management skills, with the ability to multi-task and work with teams on communications, public relations, event organization, both independently and collaboratively
  • demonstrated experience in leading major event, communications and public relations programmes, bringing multiple projects and deadlines to successful completion
  • proven ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and diverse audiences and
  • strategic thinking, creativity, and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling messages.

Experience in the higher education sector is an added advantage. Candidates from corporate, media, or agency backgrounds with relevant expertise are also welcome.

Terms and Benefits
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided where applicable.
