Hardware Engineering Director – Cloud Service Provider (CSP)

Role Summary

Lenovo is seeking an experienced Hardware Engineering Director to lead the CSP Hardware Engineering organization in Taiwan.This leadership role is responsible for driving the development and delivery of server hardware platforms supporting strategic cloud customers and AI infrastructure programs. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in server motherboard and platform development, combined with strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record of delivering complex hardware programs.

Working closely with customers, global engineering teams, manufacturing partners, and senior stakeholders, this individual will play a critical role in advancing Lenovo's cloud and AI infrastructure business.

The Hardware Engineering Director will lead the hardware design organization responsible for developing next-generation server platforms for strategic cloud service providers.

This role owns the complete hardware development lifecycle, from customer technical engagement, hardware architecture definition, schematic design, and design implementation through validation and production readiness. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise in server hardware design with strong engineering leadership to drive execution across multiple complex server platforms.

The role requires close collaboration with customers, silicon vendors, ODM partners, manufacturing, and global engineering teams to deliver innovative, high-quality server solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and develop a high-performing Hardware Engineering organization responsible for AI server hardware platform development.
2. Drive customer technical engagement to understand hardware requirements, review system specifications, and translate customer needs into optimized hardware solutions.
3. Own motherboard (planar) hardware development including:Hardware architecture, Component selection, Schematic design, Logic implementation, Design review, Board bring-up, Debug, Validation
4. Provide technical leadership for complex server hardware designs involving CPU, memory, PCIe, storage, networking, power delivery, and management subsystems.
5. Guide engineering teams through hardware design reviews, signal integrity considerations, power integrity, reliability, manufacturability, and cost optimization.
6. Work closely with customers during technical reviews, issue resolution, design change discussions, and product customization.
7. Collaborate with Mechanical, Thermal, BIOS/Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management teams to ensure successful product delivery.
8. Drive engineering excellence by improving hardware development methodologies, design quality, development efficiency, and engineering best practices. continuous improvement across engineering processes, product quality, organizational effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
9. Coach engineering managers and senior hardware engineers through mentoring, technical leadership, and talent development.

Skills & Experience

Must-Have

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 12+ years of hardware design experience with extensive server platform development expertise.
• Proven experience in server motherboard (planar) design and development.
• Strong knowledge of server hardware architecture, including:CPU platforms, DDR memory, PCIe architecture, High-speed interfaces, Power delivery, BMC, Storage, Networking
• Hands-on experience with schematic design, hardware logic implementation, board bring-up, debugging, and validation.
• Strong understanding of server hardware development processes from concept through production.
• Experience translating customer requirements into hardware architecture and implementation plans.
• Experience leading hardware engineering teams in ODM, OEM, JDM, or hyperscale server environments.
• Excellent customer communication skills with experience supporting technical discussions and design reviews.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin.

Good-to-Have

• Experience developing AI server platforms and accelerated computing solutions.
• Knowledge of NVIDIA/AMD GPU-based infrastructure and AI ecosystem technologies.
• Experience supporting hyperscale cloud customers and large-scale datacenter deployments.
• Experience working with leading cloud service providers such as Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud, Meta, Oracle Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, or Tencent Cloud.
• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams.
